Ennis Gough Property, Waterford’s newest auctioneering and estate agency welcome Minister Brian Cowan’s Budget 2008. Following Wednesday’s announcements David Ennis said ‘This budget represents a welcome streamlining of the stamp duty regime with the result of a significant reduction in stamp duty in real terms in the majority of residential property transactions. For example the stamp duty liability on a home valued at €385,000 has reduced by €10,300 or 36%.

Combined with the increase in mortgage interest relief and widened income tax bands we believe this is a welcome move for vendors and purchasers following a difficult year in the property market.’

Deirdre Gough said ‘The rental market is currently very strong and the new stamp duty rates are encouraging for investors. This, allied with the increased Rental Tax Relief for tenants encourages continued growth in the rental sector.’

2007 has seen significant changes firstly with the abolition of stamp duty in June for first time buyer and now radical realignment of stamp duty across the board
